As most of you know we have a son in afghanistan fighting the good fight?

To-day the armoured vehicle they were riding in hit an I.E.D (Improvised Explosive device).

There were injuries(Severe) in some cases but no fatalities.what my sons injuries are we are not sure but he is in Hospital in Kandahar and has undergone surgery

WE NEED YOUR PRAYERS FOR ALL THE SOLDIERS INVOLVED

Here is the latest report on his condition Neil called me last night to let me know what was going on.

He was all doped up but couldn't sleep. He was only hours out of surgery for his face.

The little piece of flesh on the inside of your mouth that attaches your bottom lip to your face was gone and he had a hole

he could breath out of under his chin. His ribs will heal in a few weeks but his right quad muscle is still questionable.

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- Eight Canadian soldiers were injured Friday on patrol in Afghanistan when their armoured vehicle struck a roadside bomb.

All of the wounded were flown to a field hospital, were they are all expected to recover, according to a Canadian forces spokesman.

None of the injuries were described as serious.

The soldiers were on routine patrol in the highly volatile Arghandab area, northwest of Kandahar City.

It has been the site of numerous battles between Canadian forces and the Taliban, who have led an Islamist insurgency in the Central Asian country since being ousted

I dont know what the army classes as serious But if broken backs, arms and legs are not serious then nobody got hurt.
My son has had his surgery,4facial wounds 20+stitches broken ribs and trouble with his legs to be evaluated at a later date.apart from that he says he feels fine.

I was very sad yesterday when 3 Canadian troops were killed by the same device your son was injured with Reg.

The news came at lunchtime...I just couldn't help thinking how easily that could have been your son!

(The coffee truck didn't sell hankies!)

If I can make it to the 'Highway of Heroes' for their homecoming I will...but doubt that I can make it...

My thoughts are with them though...

Thanks Liz,Joyce and I were thinking that the device that got Neil and his crew was a trial to see how much explosive they needed to destroy the vehicle  if that is so Neil was very lucky.
     He is in England at the moment on R.N.R we havent heard from him yet but I'm sure we will

The moment I heard the news I was 'grateful' that Neil had suffered that injury as I knew it wasn't him...

Sounds bad..but thats how I felt...

One of the chaps was only 24...a similar age to my son..

How on earth do parents cope..???

Every time I think about them I am in tears...(as I am now)...

Not just for Canadians...but all the troops that do what they are asked to do...

I cry at the drop of a hat when I think of all the sadness in this world...whether its the troops...Children being abused...or...lol..a verse from a card thats particularly sensitive...lol

Joyce and I have shed lots of tears over the last few weeks, not just for Neil but like you for all those brave young men,our son is 45 we dont need this worry at our age but-----Thats what he wants to do (maybe it is now WAS) the close call may have changed his mind---------OH GOD we hope so

Neil arrives back in Afghanistan on Christmas day       and NO he wont be wearing a red suit.
   I asked him how he felt about going back there and all he said was "It's my job thats what I get paid to do I chose it,"

Reg...I couldn't comprehend how you and Joyce must be feeling right now..

You must be very proud to have a son that even after the injury has chosen to return to such a dangerous area.

In the one month since Neil was injured there have been 6 more soldiers killed and returned to us here in Canada...103 altogether with many of them this last year. 

As I understand it, there are approximately 2600 Canadian troops in Afghanistan so that is a very high percentage in my estimation

Most were killed by the same explosive device that Neil encountered...but the law of averages should prevail and he will continue to remain safe until he returns home..

When will that be?

His safety will remain in my thoughts until that time...
